Russian stocks mixed ahead of US ballot results announcement
MOSCOW, Nov 8 (PRIME) -- The Russian stock market closed mixed on Tuesday, with the MOEX Russia Index decreasing and the RTS index rising, as investors were waiting for the results of the U.S. midterm elections to be announced after market closure, analysts said.
The MOEX Russia Index fell 0.07% to 2,207.20, and the RTS index grew 0.20% to 1,143.05.
"Mixed mood was seen on the foreign stock markets. The macroeconomic calendar is uneventful today, but investors are waiting for U.S. political events. The MOEX Russia Index and the RTS index grew to local peaks at the start of the day. Later they corrected downwards after receiving no drives to develop the increase," Veles Capital analyst Yelena Kozhukhova said.
The European market mood was neutral with the EuroStoxx 50 adding about 0.1% in the middle of the session, the decline of the nearest Brent and WTI futures deepened to about 1% from medium-term resistance levels of U.S. $98.50 and $93 respectively. In the U.S., the S&P 500 futures added 0.1% in the middle of the session.
Finam analyst Ksenia Lapshina said that markets have already priced in Republicans’ control of the House of Representatives, but results in the Senate are unclear, and investors may react positively if the Republicans get the majority.
According to Kozhukhova, Detsky Mir plummeted after announcing plans of executives to make the company private.
